Abstract :
Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the peel resistance of silicone elastomer bonded with polyurethane sheet fabricated from liquid polyurethane when using 3 primers: 1205, S-2260 and A-4040.
Materials and methods The liquid polyurethane was fabricated into sheet by pouring in gypsum mold. The experiment was divided into 4 groups, each group was 30 specimens, three experimental groups and one control group. Each experimental group was treated with primer : 1205, S-2260 and A-4040, respectively. Triacetoxy silane silicone elastomer was packed. Lloyd universal testing machine (Model LR 10 K) was used for measuring peel resistance according to ASTM D 1876-72
Results There were no bonding between polyurethane sheet and silicone elastomer in the groups treated with primers S-2260, A-4040 and the control group. The group was treated with primer 1205 had strong bonding and it produced cohesive failure in silicone elastomer.
Conclusion Primer 1205 can be used in maxillofacial prostheses to improve the bond strength between polyurethane sheet and silicone elastomer.
