Authors Guidelines
Authors interested in submitting to the Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal should read and follow the Author Guidelines carefully to ensure a rapid and efficient review process. The editorial office reserves the right to return manuscripts that are not prepared according to these instructions.
All documents should be submitted via the online submission system at http://www.dent.chula.ac.th/cudj/index.php Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the five-step process.
Guidelines
- All manuscripts sent for consideration must contain original material that has not been submitted for publication nor has been previously published elsewhere. This should be clearly certified in an accompanying cover letter.
- Manuscripts must be written in English, authors are responsible for making sure that the grammar, spelling, and language usage are correct and appropriate.
- Where possible, authors should also include a list of three or more potential reviewers for their manuscript, with contact information.
1. Original article: The manuscripts are reports of an original research in basic and clinical sciences that contribute new knowledge to the field.
2. Review article: The manuscripts provide a critical review and summary of current knowledge from a published literatures or textbooks and highlight recent developments on the topics.
3. Case report: These manuscripts present discussion of a single case or a series of cases with unusual features not previously described. The manuscript of case report should contain the following sections: Introduction, Case report, Discussion, Acknowledgement, and References. The length should not exceed 2, 500 words, 1 table, 4 illustrations and 15 references.
The manuscript text file should be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) with Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced spacing in standard A4 (21.2 x 29.7 cm) pages, 2.5 cm margin on all four sides. Pages should be numbered in succession, the title page being no. 1.The manuscript should not exceed 5,000 words (exclusive of acknowledgements and references) and should contain the following:
1. Title page: Title of the article, names and affiliations of authors, contact information of corresponding author (mailing address, tel/fax no. and email address) , abstract word count, total word count (abstract to acknowledgements), total number of tables/figures, number of references, and a minimum of 5 keywords in alphabetical order.
2. Abstract: With no more than 250 words, the abstract should contain the headings: “Background/ objectives”, “Materials and methods”, “Results”, and “Conclusion” for the respective sections.
3. Main manuscript
3.1. Introduction: Contains the review of relevant literature, rationale and objective of the study.
3.2. Materials and methods: Describe the study design, study population, protocols, statistical analyses, and experimental procedures, with sufficient details that the experiments could be repeated. For studies with human subjects, authors should indicate that the study protocols have been approved by an appropriate Institutional Review Board and written informed consent was obtained. Studies involving the use of laboratory animals are also required to certify that the protocols have been approved by institutional review to ensure humane practices.
3.3. Results: Describe the results from the study in accordance with study objectives, figures and tables may be used to illustrate the results.
3.4. Discussion: Include interpretations of the results in the context of existing data, strengths and limitations of the study, new insights or hypothesis, and future directions.
3.5. Conclusions: Summarize the main results of the study.
3.6. Acknowledgement: Include funding agencies, institutions and people who provided support or technical help.
3.7. References: The list of relevant literatures cited in the manuscript should be in alphabetical order by last name of the first author. When citing a reference in the text, provide citation in the form "last name, year" in parentheses. When the cited work is by three or more contributors, "et al." should be used. When the cited work is by two contributors, use both surnames. When citing multiple references by the same author(s) in the same year, use "a," "b," etc. (e.g., Jones, 1980b). Multiple references should be listed in chronological order of publication, separated by semi-colons.
When citing a Web site, provide the authors and title, the URL, and the date accessed in parentheses. If the referenced papers are accepted but not yet published; designate the journal as "in press." Any information not yet accepted for publication should be cited as "unpublished observations" in parentheses, but should not be listed in the references section. The author(s) should verify all references against the original documents. The reference style of the journal was adapted from the Vancouver system and follows the format suggested by "International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Sample References (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html)"

3.8. Figure legends: Included at the end of the main text file. These should describe the figures so that they can be comprehensible without reference to the text. Any abbreviations and/or symbols used should also be described.
4. Tables: Use when necessary and must be referred to in the text. Each table should be prepared on a separate page that follows the main text in the same file using word-processorûs table functions, with individual entries in individual table cells. They must not be supplied as tab- or space- separated text or as multiple entries separated by line breaks in single table cells. No vertical line or outside border should be included. Horizontal lines may be used to separate table headings from the contents. Each table should have a title and include a footnote to describe any statistics, abbreviations and/or symbols used in the table.
5. Illustrations: Use only when necessary and must be referred to in the text. Figures should be prepared according to the minimum resolution requirements in the preferred file formats for each category:
Photographic Image: Minimum resolution: 300dpi; Preferred File Formats: TIFF, JPEG
Line-art Image: Minimum resolution: 800dpi; Preferred File Formats: EPS, PowerPoint, Illustrator.
Combination Image: Minimum resolution: 800dpi; Preferred File Formats: PDF, EPS, PowerPoint, Illustrator All figures should be prepared in the size intended for final production. The maximum width is 8.3 cm for 1-column figures and 17.35 cm for 2-column figures. The maximum height is 23.35 cm. For photomicrographs, the scale should be shown by a scale bar.
Copyright
Authors must also attest that the manuscript is previously unpublished, not currently under consideration elsewhere and will not be submitted for publication elsewhere regardless of language and is submitted only to the Journal. Manuscripts under multiple publication policy are exempt from the said practice. Articles published in the Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal are copyrighted. No part of the articles may be copied, modified, reproduced or utilized in any form for any purposes without permission from the Journal. If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included, the Author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the manuscript. All statements in, or omissions from, published manuscripts are the responsibility of the Authors, who will assist the editors by reviewing proofs before publication. The contents and opinions presented in the articles published in Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal do not reflect the opinion shared by the Journalûs editorial board.
Permission and Waivers
Permission of the copyright holders must be obtainedin writing for the direct use of illustrations or tablespreviously published and under copyright (except forreference use). Written permission must be submittedto the editor before the manuscript can be published.Quotations must be written in quotation marks andreferences must be identified for each quotation. Waiversmust be obtained in writing while identifiable photographof the persons and waivers must be presented to the editors.

Authors will be given PDF file of the publication.
Subscription Rates
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal (hard copy) is published twice per year (January to June and July to December). Subscription rate for one issue is 150 baht and 12 USD for oversea. Membership rate is 300 baht for local members and 30 USD for oversea members per year (including shipping and handling). Downloading from our website is free of charge.
