Abstract :

Objective  The purpose of this study is to find out how dental professional experience and sex have an influence on the competence in detection of the cant between interpupillary line and maxillary frontal plane. The result of this study will be a guideline to construct the maxillary occlusion rim.

Materials and methods  One hundred and fifty samples were recruited from dental students, dentists and lecturers at the faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University. By considering the parallelism between interpupillary line and commissure line from photographs that have differences in degree between interpupillary line and commissure line in 10 seconds per picture, samples were asked to answer if the picture was parallel or not. The data was collected and analyzed by one-way ANOVA and two sample independent t-test at 95% confident interval.

Results  There was no significant difference among groups of samples in evaluation of occlusal cant in frontal view photographs.

Conclusion  Neither the dental professional experience nor sex had influenced on competence in detection of the cant between interpupillary line and maxillary frontal plane in dental personnel.
