Abstract :

Objective  The purpose of this study was to compare the process of root canal treatment practiced by a group of Thai dentists at present time with that practiced when they had been in dental schools.

Material and method  The 600 questionaires were sent to Thai dentists in Thailand by convenience sampling from the member list of the Dental Association of Thailand.

Result  The results revealed that a group of Thai dentists have significantly changed the protocol of root canal treatment from which they had studied in dental schools (p<0.001) including materials and techniques used in irrigation and intracanal medication. The results also showed that 91.95% of this group of the Thai dentists have continuously updated their knowledge.

Conclusion  The Thai dentists have continuously attended in conferences which were organized by the Thai Dental Association, the Thai Endodontic Society or dental schools to revise their knowledge and clinical protocol. The results imply that continuing education courses are necessary for Thai dentists to improve their competency in root canal treatment.
