Overview

The international program in orthodontics is the first Joint Degree Program (JDP) of Chulalongkorn University (CU) and Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU). The five-year program aims to educate and train dentists in the orthodontic specialty. The study will take place at CU in the first, the third-fifth years, and at TMDU in the second year. The general dentists have opportunity to practice contemporary orthodontics and establish a deep research activity that will prepare them to be not only orthodontists but also leaders of the research project. During the first 3 years the students will focus on theoretical study on diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions by interceptive and corrective orthodontics as well as multidisciplinary approaches, dissertation seminar and establish research proposal under the supervision of both CU and TMDU advisors. Part of the research result will be submitted for publication in the international journal for fulfillment of the program. In order to enhance their expertise in orthodontics the students have the opportunity to treat orthodontic patients at the CU clinic for at least 2.5 years. Treatment progresses as well as results have to be evaluated and accepted for fulfillment of the clinical training.
