Dental treatment demands in Dental Clinic of Chulalongkorn University Dental Hospital

Abstract :

Objective  The purpose of this study was to investigate the dental treatment demands in Dental Clinic of Chulalongkorn University Dental Hospital in order to have an adequate planning and developing for a better dental service in Dental Clinic of Chulalongkorn University Dental Hospital.

Material and methods  In this study, data was collected from 11,533 dental records and chief complaint charts of dental patients attending the Dental Clinic of Chulalongkorn University Dental Hospital during July to December 1999. The population were between 13 years to over 60 years old.

Results  Most of the population were 21-30 years old (28.2%) and dental treatment demands tended to decrease with age. More females tended to seek treatment than males (ratio 2:1). Private individuals were the highest occupation group attended the dental clinic (37.9%). Two majority treatment demands according to chief complaints were filling (26.0%) and periodontal treatment (24.7%), respectively.

Conclusion  The population were in need of dental treatment. More dental service especially restoration and periodontal treatment should be provided.
